X.1402. R.{Sir Henry Royce} from By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. c. to EFC. By2/KP10.12.18. X.3412 RE DYNAMO FOR FIRST 1000 CHASSIS. X 3560. X.1402 Referring to your memo By3/DB{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}16.11.18, in which I mentioned that Messrs. Newton Bros. of Derby had been using the Bijur scheme of control for their aeroplane dynamo, I have since then been in touch with the company in question and asked them to put before us a definite proposition in the shape of a dynamo to meet our requirements. I am attaching herewith a copy of their letter of the 6th inst., WVM/FN and also print shewing the outline of the dynamo in question. Would you kindly let me have any remarks you wish to make upon the subject as early as possible, as Messrs. Newton are very anxious to know whether their proposition is received favourably by ourselves, or not. The weight of the dynamo, namely, 21 to 22 lbs. is very light and it appears to me that their proposition represents sound design electrically, as it has certainly resulted in the minimum weight for output of anything which has ever been proposed to us up to the moment. The Control of the dynamo is the Bijur scheme of constant voltage by means of a voltage regulator, such as you have on the little lighting dynamo now fitted at West WitteringHenry Royce's home town.
