contd :- -4- very good distribution without any heat. We may summarise these carburetter tests by saying that experimental proof has been obtained to shew that no appreciable gain in power results by increasing the chokes and air ports in the std. Phantom and 20 HP. carbs. We also think the large internal capacity of the carburetter is one of the reasons why it is necessary to employ so much heat to the induction pipe bend as the low velocity must assist fuel precipitation, particularly so with low grade fuel in cold weather. With regard to the long duration cams on the Phantom, we did not obtain the power at high speeds we should have expected from consideration of the 20 HP. results. We think the restricting influence was the carburetter and we are arranging to take a test on the Phantom, at high speeds, fitted with two RR.C.H. carburetters.
