New Trials Continental Saloon No. 60-JS.{Mr Johnson's Secretary}

I have been very much concerned at receiving a report about this car of which the following is an extract :-

"Apparently, whilst it has been out of Barker's hands, the coachwork has suffered to a considerable degree. The paint has been knocked off the inner valances of the front wings by careless closing of the bonnet; the outer lips, or valances of the front wings have been dented; the combined shields and stone guards below the wings have been knocked about and the leather is badly soiled.

When I saw the cushions Barkers had already made an attempt to clean them but they were still dirty. Barkers thought they would be able to effect a further improvement, but were of the opinion that they cannot restore the leather to its original condition. This applies to the front seats and front squabs and to the back cushion.

It seems unfortunate that whilst the car was at W. the upholstery, which is somewhat delicate, was not covered to protect it."

Barkers state that they will require a full week to do only what is necessary to make the car look decent again. You will appreciate that there is not only the expense which is involved, but even more serious, the further length of time during which this car is not earning its keep.

It will be remembered that at intervals in the past this same question of adequately protecting new cars when they are at the Works has arisen, and I can only urge that the necessity for additional care be impressed upon those sitting in or driving the car. Upholstery covers of some description should be the first job attended to on the car's arrival for attention.
