Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}4/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 3rd January, 1938. J.M. Colville, Esq., Arngomery, Kippen. Dear Colville, Mr. Elliott has passed on to me your letter of December 26th. We have specifically designed the Rolls-Royce Wraith car to be as smooth and as silent as possible, also reasonably economical to run. It is, relatively speaking, a big car with a small engine. It has considerably more room on the chassis for body space than the 25/30. Although its performance when measured against the stop watch is not very different from that of the old 25/30 either with regard to maximum speed or acceleration, the braking, road-holding and steering are all so incomparably better than its predecessors that it is a great deal faster from point to point than your old car. I have had an opportunity of driving either Wraith or Bentley experimental cars on numerous business trips, and can only say that for seven journeys out of ten, I prefer to take a Wraith. I suggest that you live with your Wraith about six months, and then say whether you would really like to sacrifice any of its Rolls-Royce virtues for increased performance. Yours sincerely, | ||
