X1332 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/KW. 11th July, 1935. The Dunlop Rubber Co.Ltd., Dunlop House, 1, Albany Street, LONDON, N.W.1. For the attention of Mr. N.W.H. Freeman. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of July 10th. The main thing which concerns us about the 6.50 x 19 tyres which you recommend for Hall's car is that the wheels and tyres are very heavy, and they also give us a gear ratio which we do not like. Clearly, if these tyres will not run half the course they are of no use whatever to us because the tyres we ran last year will go through the race with two changes. We propose in practise, however, if possible, actually to complete 17 laps of the course, to see how the tyres stand up. The thing we hoped that you would be able to supply was simply a percentage increase in the life to be expected from these tyres, irrespective of the road surface. Last year the tyres were showing the canvas at 11 laps. If they are going to run half way, the new tyres have got to do 17 laps. We may take it that the road surface will be identical, as we know of no alteration which has been made. | ||
