1336 TELEPHONES: PAISLEY 4141/5. INDIA TYRE & RUBBER COMPANY, LTD. TELEGRAMS: INDIATYRE, RENFREW. INCHINNAN SCOTLAND OUR REF. PW/HDE. YOUR REF. 21st December, 1938. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. [Handwritten initials: FH, FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}] Dear Mr. Robotham, The 4 - 6.50/16 Covers in our regular pattern with the continuous rib on the shoulder were shipped to you on the 19th December and you should have them in the course of a few days. I have been going into the question of the 6.50/16 mould in our proposed seven rib pattern with variable pitch and I find that it will be impossible to have this tyre ready for you until about the 15th February. The reason for the delay is difficulties which we have experienced in getting suitable dies made. Regarding the special tyre with wide section which we propose to make for trial on the Bentley, we think that a suitable size will be 7.0-16 which will be fitted on a 5" width rim. The tyre will be built with four plies of a special cord and construction for lightness and strength which will probably operate at about 25 lbs. inflation pressure. The principal dimensions will be as follows:- Size. Load. Rim. Overall Diameter. Inflation Width. 7.0-16 10 cwt. 5.00-16 27.6" 6.95 At a later date I will let you have more information on weight, deflection, rolling radius, tread pattern and so forth. - Continued - [Logo: THE MARK OF SERVICE] | ||
