(Experimental Dept.) 1180 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale}16/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 4th January, 1937. The Bifurcated & Tubular Rivet Co.,Ltd., AYLESBURY. Tel Aylesbury 95 Dear Sirs, Anvil for Bifurcated Rivetting Machine. We enclose a drawing GW.684 of a brake shoe to which we want to rivet the Ferodo lining on a Bifurcated Rivetting machine, style 102, No.P.1457. We understand that you supply and service our machines, and are, therefore, familiar with them. A difficulty has been created by the addition of transverse ribs to this shoe, as these do not allow us to get our present anvils into the corners where the rivets are. Our present anvils are in shape like cylinders bisected on a longitudinal axis. If we could have an anvil consisting of a quarter cylinder, we could do the job as the anvils swivel. Will you please let us know if it is possible for you to supply us with a modified anvil, as suggested. We are, of course, prepared to reduce the dimension of 1.250" (which we have marked in red), and provide flats on the inside of the outer flange round the rivet holes. Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
