(crossed out), Plan 17/8/-] Dear Sirs, DASHBOARD AMMETER. With reference to the Dashboard Ammeter submitted to you a short time ago and recently returned in accordance with your letter of the 27th of July with the report that the needle was sticking, we have to report that we have very carefully tested this Instrument without altering it in any way and have been unable to trace any defects whatsoever, the movement being perfectly free and the Instrument reading correctly. It occurs to us that the very heavy damping of this Instrument, which damping is about three times as great as that of any other similar Instrument, may have been mistaken for stickiness as it results in the needle taking up its position immediately without any wobble. This heavy damping is in our opinion, a great advantage as it enables readings readily to be taken and protects the moving element from sudden shocks. In view of the foregoing we would suggest that possibly it is desirable for the writer Mr. Baggs to call upon you again with the Instrument and actually witness the testing for sticking and we are therefore retaining the Instrument until we hear from you again regarding the matter. The writer will be going on holiday at the week-end but as he understands that you are closed down for local holidays at the same period, presumably the delay of a fortnight will not be serious. Yours faithfully, [Signature] FERRANTI LIMITED. | ||
