Easy Change. We found that R.{Sir Henry Royce} had taken your note seriously and was busy making simpler schemes for easy change. He agreed that the scheme so far sent through for P.II. would need considerable amount of development before it would be satisfactory.

The scheme sent through for the 25.HP. should need less development but this could not be looked upon as an immediate scheme.

Js.{Mr Johnson's Secretary} & Hdy.{William Hardy} were working on a scheme for P.II. which consists of one epicyclic train in conjunction with Maybach or Salerni type clutch. This will provide quiet 2nd, 3rd, and top gears with easy change for each. This is much simpler than anything we have yet received but we still feel we ought to go for the simple scheme of easy change and quiet gear for the 3rd. speed only. I tried to persuade R.{Sir Henry Royce} that this could be conveniently done on the 25 HP. R.{Sir Henry Royce} complained that if we continually change the policy we should get nothing made at all.
