To CJ. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to BJ. RG.{Mr Rowledge} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4247 R5/M16.10.23. RE. GOSHAWK. GEARBOX FOR SIDE LEVERS AND 4-WHEEL BRAKES. X.1559 X.4247 Referring to your memo. regarding four wheel brakes for Goshawk, we have I understand stopped the gearbox we have designed for side levers without four wheel brakes. We shall be pushing forward the ~~two~~ designs for a box which we had in hand exactly like EAC.1 somewhat simplified for side levers and multi-plate pattern Servo for four wheel brakes. I believe it will be our best policy, and certainly easiest understood, if we announce that after No. so-and-so 20 HP., these chassis will be fitted with side levers, and can be supplied with four wheel brakes if desired, at £50 extra. That is, we do not attempt to fit four wheel brakes with the present box, or with any box having central levers. To enable us to make this change at a suitable date we must stop production of front axles, ~~unintelligible~~ and gearboxes, and change speed levers for this chassis. The date at which we can supply this gearbox (I suggest March) will be the date at which we can supply side lever cars with, or adaptable for four wheel brakes. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
