contd:- -3- made up owing to the present "lock-out" position. We are also attempting to try out on this car a steering connecting tube with buffer springs at each end. Generally speaking, the car is very good. The engine is not really bad for vibration as compared with 2-Goshawk-II or even 5-Goshawk-II but this is certainly very good for power and even with a 14-tooth axle was able to climb Pixtorn Hill lowest speed 15 M.P.H. 2 up - open bodied car, - (cold, dry roads and following wind). (Handwritten note: favourable weather conditions) The car is fitted with disc wheels which do not give the axle a fair chance for quietness and certainly, on this car, I feel sure causes a certain amount of booming etc. especially over rough roads and cobble-stones, this is to be accentuated. (Handwritten note: this is to be accentuated.) We have reported on the above chiefly with the idea of letting you know why how we stand with regard to 6-Goshawk-II, and if it was considered by you at Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence that it would be more wise to have the car at Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence to settle other important features on the car even although the car has these faults, we are in a position that we can carry on with this investigation at the Works with other cars, but suggest car returned to Works after visit to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence to effect alterations and improvements that will be suggested. (Handwritten notes: 'why' inserted after 'know'. 'more' inserted before 'wise'. On right margin: 'to Scrutiny Section'. Below paragraph: 'suggest car returned to Works after visit to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence to effect alterations and improvements that will be suggested.') EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} You will notice from our previous correspondence and following up your reports to C.J. that we are anxious to keep a modern Goshawk-II car at the Works to carry out investigation work on complaints and failures which take place. I approached B.J. this morning that we retain 7-Goshawk-II (Amateur car) at the Works in order to send 6-Goshawk-II to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, which we recommend should be done. He is averse to doing this and insists that the Amateur Car must be delivered as originally promised even although I suggested we could compromise by letting them have 3-Goshawk-II (limousine) which would, as far as general running and appearance, be fully modernised.
