To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} o.{Mr Oldham} to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} (text crossed out) B 1158 (handwritten and crossed out) Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner}14/JH.7.5.40. Marine - B.80 Induction Pipe - PL.217. Referring to Mr. Fishers suggestion in fitting a down draught carburetter since they cannot supply us with an up draught. We have designed a "Ram Horn" pipe to really see its shape. Apart from the conjestion it makes to the plumbing, it appears to me that it has possible defects :- (1) It cannot be right to draw the mixture down wards then horizontally and upwards. (2) The accumulation of wet petrol at the bottom of the pipe would be aggravated. (3) It is a far too difficult casting for the foundry. We therefore intend to go to the original project of fitting the Solex up-draught carburetter. Solex Ltd., say they can supply within 5 days, and they are prepared to include a flame arrester, but this has to be specially made. We have made a design for the arrester and when the Amal traveller is next at Belper will contact him. Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} [Signature] | ||
