X1300 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} 6/JH. 5th August, 1936. Messrs. Adamant Engineering Co.Ltd., Dallow Road, Luton. For the attention of Comdr. Matravers. Dear Sirs, We are returning to you under separate cover a roller follower to your M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 21116 which has completed 10,000 miles running in France on one of our Ph. III cars. As you will notice the roller bearing tracks are appreciably worn or indented. As this trouble did not occur in the case of the first steering of this type which completed 20,000 miles under similar conditions, we are wondering whether the material is soft or the case thin. We should be very glad if you would check up these particulars and let us know the results, and also return the roller at your convenience. We are somewhat concerned about this as we have another roller which has done only 3,100 miles and shows signs of similar trouble. When the writer was last at Luton you mentioned to him that you were making a 1 7/16 steering gear for the Vauxhall with an outboard roller bearing on the rockershaft. | ||
