We recommend that Rn.{Mr Robinson} goes to the Berlin Show to try the Maybach car. It would be convenient for him to leave here on Monday the 22nd. inst. which means that he will be in Berlin on the following day.

We think it would be advisable if you would inform Herr von Winterfeldt so that he can make the necessary appointments as regards trying the cars. We should like it to be arranged that there is a Phantom II available so that Rn.{Mr Robinson} can get a definite comparative value of the Maybach.

Whilst Rn.{Mr Robinson} is there, we also wish him to take up with the Maybach Co. the essential design features and limitations of the Maybach clutch. We are proposing to fit these clutches to several gearboxes and we expect therefore to have to pay them a royalty. Our chief concern however is that we have departed radically from their arrangement and we are doubtful whether our scheme is going to work. We have rigged up a temporary scheme in the same manner as we propose to use it and it is certainly far from satisfactory. This is a similar scheme to what is designed in Japan's gearbox. It may be that our proportions are wrong. On the other hand the Maybach people may be able to tell us right away from their experience our scheme is not practical.

Whilst Rn.{Mr Robinson} is in Germany therefore we want him to collect all the information he can from the Maybach people.

If Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} or E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} have any special points which they would like Rn.{Mr Robinson} to take up whilst he is in Germany will they please let us know.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
