With reference to Cx {Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} 4/KW24.1.39, we have given "The Autocar" so much information with regard to the Engineering Dept. that we anticipate they will certainly spread it over two issues of "The Autocar", and possibly three. To "The Motor" we have only given information necessary to 'Write up' the Rolls-Royce bearing alloy. We know that "The Motor" Representative, Mr. Pomeroy, is very much looked after by Lagondas, and, in fact, they are lending him a car to go to the Show. We, therefore, feel that he might accidentally pass on some information of ours to Lagondas. For this reason we are glad that we have confined his article to bearings. We are proposing that all the Paulin Bentley work should be an entirely separate issue, and we understand that both "The Autocar" and "The Motor" Representatives are going to accompany the car. As we see it, it is simply a story written about a car which was built for a private owner, and which is a little out of the ordinary. Later on, if it goes for a final endurance run, that again would be a story about a particular car. It is not standard with regard to the body, but it is standard with regard to the chassis. "The Autocar" is going to great lengths to make a story of their "Write up" on the Engineering Dept., and in two or three months' time, or thereabouts we hope that they will follow up their proposed series of articles with a "Write up" of the road tests. We recommend that we should take Montague Tombs and Gordon Crosby over to ChateaurouxFrench test region when we get the maximum amount of activity over there, which will probably be the end of March, or the beginning of April. The article will really cover the Road Test Section and the Engineering Dept., which are bound up with the durability of the product. All the "Write-ups" on the Paulin car will automatically advertise the performance of the product, and if we are allowed to go for a 24 hour endurance, this will be the best possible advertisement for performance under sustained endurance conditions.
