X.3328 To BY } from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} " EH. } EA/G6.11.18. X.3328 RE "EAGLE" ELECTRICAL STARTER. In the LeC. drawing recently sent to you shewing the motor epicyclic reduction modified to suit Messrs.Lucas' requirements, no special provision has been made for lubricating the planet pinion bearings. There are various simple features which might be added to accomplish this object, such as a scraper groove on one of the side bearing faces of the cage, which could scrape oil off and deliver it through a small hole to the planet bearing. We should be glad if Mr. Hives would watch the lubrication at this point and determine whether it is necessary to add a special feature to deal with it. Referring to the shape of the canti-lever which takes the weight of the motor, Mr. Royce wishes you to make this a simple taper shape, as shewn in the sketch below, instead of the combination of two tapers and a parallel which we shewed on our LeC. drawing. This will simplify the manufacture of the piece. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} see original for sketch. | ||
