To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} X.4240. E1/M27.2.23. RE. THERMOSTAT FOR 5.GOS:11. X.4240. We return - under separate cover - the original thermostat from the above car. After fitting the new thermostat we subsequently found that it stuck shut and stuck open, and on investigation the lower guide on the thermostat was seen to be the cause of the trouble. I took down the apparatus and found the guide was quite free in the ordinary way, but appeared to be eccentric when erected. I filed a lot of clearance into this bearing with a round file, re-erected the apparatus and it now Works well,* and maintains a temperature of 70°. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
