---COPY--- WHEATLAND WORKS, SEACOMBE, Cheshire. 14th February 1933. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. Derby. Dear Sirs, We have received word from our Manchester House that our representative - Mr.Stockwell - called at your works last Wednesday and interviewed Mr.Mills. We understand you would like to have samples of all our Brake Linings and technical data referring to same. We have pleasure, therefore, in enclosing literature dealing with the technical aspects of our brake lining and the samples are being sent under separate cover. With regard to our Leather and Canvas Flexible Couplings, we have pleasure in giving you details of a representative size of coupling, so that you can compare its strength, etc. with that of your standard article. The size of this coupling is 8-1/4" o/d x 3-1/4" i/d, thickness of leather 7/8" with 1/16" thick plates. Dia. of bolt holes - 1/2". Pitch circle dia. - 153 mm. The maximum permissible deflection on the propeller shaft with a coupling of this thickness is 5°. Tensile strength of leather - 3,500 lbs. per sq. in. Allowable working stress - 500 lbs. per sq. in. This coupling is capable of transmitting a torque of 480 lb. ft. If you would let us have the size of the couplings you use yourselves, we shall be only too glad to let you know the torque our couplings would be capable of transmitting, and any other details which you require.
