Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 1st inst. We regret that we do not see our way to paying for the new couplings you propose to submit to us for test. If you care to submit 4 couplings to us only and these turn out to be consistently good, we would then consider the matter further but at the moment we have no justification for assuming that you can make as good a coupling as the Hardy people from whom we are at present obtaining our supplies.
