1042 Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/R.18.7.38. We are now in a position to dispense with the following cars:- Oldsmobile Bentley Chassis 3.B.IV. The Oldsmobile has only done about 17,000, and is in quite good condition. 3.B.IV. has various non-standard features, a list of which we attach. The only one that seems serious to us from a policy point of view is the overdrive box. We recommend that the engine mounting should be put back to standard, otherwise the car should be left as it is. The Girling rear brakes have done 17,000 miles in France, and have been passed for production. In view of our policy with regard to the Line 8 engine, it would appear desirable to consider the purchase of a Century Model Buick which has the best power unit that we know of about the size of our projected engine. The object of getting the car would be to have a target at which to aim with regard to power output, smoothness and silence. The 1939 Buick should be out by the time we have our own engine running on the road, and, therefore, we should recommend that if we decide upon this car we should get a next year's model over from the States.
