With reference to the fitting of the Bottom Washer Ex.941 on production engines, we find there is no clearance left to allow the felt packing to compress, as shown in Fig.1. on blueprint of Sch:732 attached.

It was agreed yesterday in conference with Mr Bailey, that it was not good design to use in the same felt packing as for the flat topped washer.

Fig.III shows a proposed new Valve Guide, which, by inverting the felt, we retain all the conditions of our present production.

Fig.II, our present standard is shown for comparison.

Will you please inform Mr Bailey if you agree to Fig.III, and also if the new parts should be brought into production without scrapping any existing parts.
