Dear Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} ,

I wish to thank you for your letter of the 28th September notifying me that you are sending us a dozen defective plugs. As soon as these come to hand I will send them to Detroit and ask them to do some swift investigation on them.

While I agree with you that this trouble definitely appears to be associated with the use of leaded fuel, I still cannot help thinking that the carburation is aggravating it. It is typical of some cases we have had with aviation engines, but I cannot at the moment call to mind any persistent trouble in the case of a car; at least, where we have had trouble we have usually been able to eliminate it completely by the choice of another type of plug.

How are your own tests progressing along these lines? Have you got anywhere with them? Any additional data which you may have to give me I will cable over to Detroit in order that they can make a thorough investigation of the plugs you have sent.

With kind regards,

Yours sincerely,

P.S. What mileage have these plugs done? FRB
