Failures, defects, and missing components of a gun.

7. It is considered that the failure of the breech to close was caused by three factors :-

(a) Dirt and dust in the mechanism.
(b) Lack of lubrication.
(c) A badly fitting extractor, or dirt in the extractor return spring.

8. The following defects were noted :-

(a) Foresight ring distorted and broken.
(b) Mesothorium tubes broken or missing.
(c) Gun mechanism dry and dirty.
(d) Sights have not been tested or secured in position correctly.
(e) Rubber eye-piece not fitted to back-sight.
(f) Grease cups screwed fully home and nearly dry.

9. The following tools and appurtenances have not been supplied :-

(a) Piasaba brush,
(b) Gun shields,
(c) Cocking tool.

10. The gun muzzle is heavy (item 4. of H.M.S.EXCELLENT's No: 681/X.1245/4) of 18th. December, 1940) and should be balanced; the balance weight will require further adjustment when the layer's face armour is fitted.

11. A gun cover is being designed and made by the British Power Boat Co.,
