RE TOOL KIT.

Mr. Royce the other day made the suggestion that it would be useful to supply with the kit a receptacle of about 1 pt. capacity, for lubricating oil. One usually, on requiring to lubricate some part while on the road or away from a garage, draws a suitable quantity from the extra engine oil tank. This is not very convenient as the syringe will not with certainty lift the desired amount and it is better to unscrew the end of the syringe and pour it in. The suggestion to carry a small receptacle for lubricating oil for general purposes, fills we think a general want for the proper care of the chassis on the road, but at the same time we are not sure whether customers would in fact carry this receptacle or if they did carry it whether it would be used, and we feel that you can give us advice on this point. We do not wish to supply anything which is not going to be generally used.

Mr. Royce also raised the point whether we should continue to use leather for the tool roll, owing to the increased cost of this material at present, but on looking into the matter we find that suitable alternatives are practically as costly, and we therefore propose to continue with leather. During discussion on this matter, however, it has been suggested that in many cases tool kits in the form in which they are sent out from the Works, are not used by customers, owing to difficulty in stowing with certain types of bodies.

We wish you to advise us whether the Tool Kit as delivered
