Our Ref: JES/CH. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. [Handwritten: Hoten Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/SM] Dear Sirs, Re BGA.2073.A. Confirming our telephone conversation today, the writer has now had an opportunity of examining the thermostat, and the failure is definitely due to a minute fracture in the bottom convolution of the bellows. A failure of this type is most unusual, for as you are probably aware, an almost identical instrument has been supplied to Vauxhall Motors for several years, a similar design of Stat is also in use throughout the British motoring industry, and the percentage of defects has been negligible. The defective instrument is being repaired and returned to you immediately. Yours faithfully, THE BRITISH THERMOSTAT COMPANY LTD. [Signature] J.E.Sherlock P.S. We have just received your letter reference Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.1./AP. and note your comments regarding the Thermostat remaining in the closed position when the bellows are punctured. Unfortunately the instrument had been stripped down before we were able to check the cause of this. Normally, when the bellows are punctured, the valve partially opens. | ||
