SIDE WHEEL CARRIERS AND DIAMOND ENGINE MOUNTING.

[Handwritten: Filed x7600. x5600.]

We feel that the stay from the side wheel carrier to the dashboard is only an immediate treatment for the trouble of side wheel unsteadiness. On J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. we shall have to do something different.

We would like you to conduct some tests on P. 2. (because this car has a wide bonnet) to indicate to us what we are to do.

We indicate in sketch (1) a piece of angle bolted to the outside of the frame and the face of the dashboard. We believe you have tried this alone and say that it is inadequate. We would like this confirmed, but what we would like to try is this piece of angle in conjunction with a stay from the frame at the junction of the lower flange and the web, to a point somewhere near the centre of the dashboard.

We are still hoping to hear from you concerning the reasons why the stays on the 20/25 were of no use, and hope you will try our suggestion of moving the point of contact of the stay with the frame to the junction between the web and the flange.

If we can make nothing of this stay, or of the plate between the dashboard and the frame, or both, we shall be forced to the added complication and inconvenience of a cross member underneath the engine, and we would like to avoid this if possible.
