Dear Sirs,

We were in receipt of your letter M/C.154 of the 12th inst., but did not have an opportunity of replying to this before the holiday.

We have noted the remarks of your chief tester in regard to the dependence of discharge capacity upon acid density, and we shall be interested to see curves of the results you are taking on the recording ammeter.

We have made one further discharge test on the large celluloid battery. We first of all discharged this battery, then emptied out about 1/3 of electrolyte from each cell and filled up with distilled water and recharged. We found the average density of the acid at the end of the charge to be 1235. We have not obtained any increase in discharge capacity on this particular discharge, but we shall make a further trial.

Regarding Clause 6 of our specification; we do not care to have all the cells sealed over like your ebonite sample but we would either like them completely separate or else just lightly stuck together. We have modified paragraph No.6 on our specification in order to accept the case in which the cells may be changed by just unscrewing connections. We do not, however, advocate this being done on the main terminals of the battery each time the battery is removed from the car and hence we have specified the cable connections.

Our Chief Engineer seems to be rather keen on having the cells separate and easily replaceable, so we shall be glad if you will go ahead with a new battery on the lines of specification modified as enclosed, which kindly allow to supersede that already sent to you. You will notice that we have added a paragraph re Internal Resistance of Battery, as this is a very important point in connection with the use of the battery on the starter motor.
