X5860 Hotel de France. Chateauroux. Indre. France. 6th August 1934. To HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LES.{Ivan A. Leslie} From G.W.H. 21 G 1V. Re governor unit. We have at last been able to obtain the pressure from the unit. To try and tell you which valve was giving the trouble is not possible, as all evidence is destroyed when the valve units are taken out. The trouble has been similar to that experienced on 4 B 1V, and on the unit of 21 G 1V before we came out here. It was a question of taking the unit down and thoroughly washing it out. To be precise, 4 B 1V was washed out four times before it was satisfactory. It is also impossible to tell you where the fluff was in the box. All we know is, that when we emptied the chamber, we were surprised to see a fair amount of fluff floating about in the oil. On 4 B 1V we had the gauze fitted on the control valve. It was not on 21 G 1V. we have altered the drain hole as per your drawing sent out to us, both on 4 B 1V and 21 G 1V; 4 B 1V unit was not losing much oil, whereas 21 G 1V was. We shall be able to give you results later. The pressures taken on 21 G 1V after getting it right, are as follows: M.P.H. Minimum Control. Maximum Control. 10 1 13.5 lbs. 20 1.5 13.5 30 2 15 40 3 17 50 4.5 19 60 6 21 70 7 21 The dampers are not losing a lot of oil. We checked them at 4,000 miles, because of the drivers reports of leaks. The following amount of oil was added to bring them up to the correct level in bottom of filler. NSF. - 9cc.; OSF. - 15cc.; NSR. - 11cc.; OSR. - 22cc. G.W.H. | ||
