Messrs. Rolls Royce Limited,
DERBY.

For the attention of Mr. Steadman.

Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter of the 15th inst, we note your further criticisms of the hand made shutter assembly which was supplied to you. We reserve our comments until we receive this set back together with the shell for fitting purposes.

We can only repeat that it is impossible in hand made work to achieve accurate limits, and sample shutter sets, while being manufactured to illustrate what production sets would look like, do not necessarily mean that they would be as accurate as production sets.

With regard to the stiffener to your drawing of a modified design enclosed with your letter, we agree that this is an improvement and confirm that we have made no tools for the manufacture of this type of stiffener.

With regard to the section of the shutter vane, tools will ensure that the section shown on the drawing A.97 will be adhered to.

With regard to your comments on the question of radiator cost, in the writer's opinion the general design and construction of your radiator is very much superior to the standard radiators used by other firms, your construction being to closer limits and more of an engineering proposition than other manufacturers. If you analyse the detail work involved on constructing your radiators to the limits specified and to the finish required, we think you will see where expense is involved.
