To HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to Cl. [Struck through] ORIGINAL [Stamp] R7/G25/11/20. 5 [Handwritten] D [Stamp] 29 NOV [Stamp] [Clock face stamp] X.435 X.4219 RE PLATE CLUTCH AND GEAR BOX. I shall be glad (if you have not sketches of the details of the plate clutch and gear box when the latter is attached to the engine) if you will take down as many cars as you have got, including the Packard. We think that you ought to find that the Packard is wearing the teeth of the outer clutch plates, due to the very slight want of alignment of the intermediate shaft between the engine and gearbox. We are inclined to make the new "Goshawk" of the single plate type, which appears to be capable of correct treatment to avoid the wear of either the inner or outer clutch plates in teeth which drive them as they drive. Yankees do not know or do not care. about this point. [Handwritten] R.{Sir Henry Royce} [Signature] | ||
