CLS/RGG. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Platford, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Motor Car Manufacturers, D E R B Y . Dear Sir, Your favour of the 29th. inst. to hand this morning and we are very pleased to note your willingness to carry out tests of our Motor Oils, both touring and racing grades. We beg to advise you that we are sending on a ten-gallon drum of each of the following:- Special C. W. Motor Oil Wakefield Racing-Castrol, The first-named is the grade for touring purposes and, although of comparatively light body at the air temperatures, it is possessed of great viscosity and a remarkably high flash-point. This is an oil that we specially produced some time ago for the lubrication of Crossley motor cars and it is now exclusively used and recommended by Messrs. Crossley Motors Ltd. It has proved extremely efficient and especially so as regards absence of carbonisation and we are sending this particular oil for trial upon your cars as we feel confident that it will prove perfectly satisfactory in every respect. We are bearing in mind your preference for oils of heavy body but, as pointed out to you, we do not advocate the use of these as we contend that an oil of comparatively light body will result in freedom from gumminess, will result in an increase of power and, provided that it possesses good viscosity at the working temperatures, will provide efficient lubrication. If, after trial, you find that our oil has not given the satisfaction that we claim for it, we shall be pleased to supply a further quantity of a somewhat heavier body but having similar characteristics. As regards the Racing-Castrol, this is the oil we have specially produced for high speed racing engines and upon which so many successes during the past two years have been obtained. (Continued) | ||
