(1) Reference cable 196 from Mr.Hives, which reads as follows:-

"No.196. Re High Compression engines. Due to inferior quality gasolene available here recommend all high compression cars sent here in the future advisable to have .08 liner under Cylinders. Re Pressure Gauges America can obtain here gauges free from defects of American gauge submitted to Royce and are identical with Western instrument. In finish of faces and all external features they are interchangeable with English gauge. With regard to pipe fittings recommend these to be used. Do you agree? Cancel order for gauges for America after shipping 50 sets. Telegraph reply at once. Hives."

The Committee agreed that the following cable should be sent to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} in reply to the above:-

"Re Cable 196 Works Committee agree to use of gauges recommended and decimal nought eight liner on high compression engine. Supplies of gauges from England will cease at fifty sets as recommended by you. America Inc. should confirm these points. Will start fitting liners to cars not yet erected. Bailey. Rolls Royce."

The Works Committee agreed that the question of these liners should not be retrospective but should only be put on to future cars which are not yet erected.
