1280 Experimental Dept. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Std.G/MH. {M. Huckerby} 5th. September 1938. The Leyland & Birmingham Rubber Co. Ltd., LEYLAND, LANCS. For the attention of Mr.Gollop. Dear Sirs, We are returning to you today two rubber hose connections which have been run on our cars, and whose internal condition we do not consider satisfactory. The first, a red hose, has covered approximately 11,000 miles over a period of six months; the second, a black hose, has covered 3,000 miles over a period of about 2 months. In the case of the latter a corrosion inhibitor has been put in the water system, the said inhibitor being a Phenol derivative somewhat similar to the disinfectant "Izal". The first hose, however, has only been run with water and 30% Ethylene Glycol in the water system. We would like to have your comments on the condition of these hoses, and the reason for the deterioration which they show. Our previous tests with S.1633.K hose have indicated a high degree of resistance to deterioration. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
