SLUDGING UP OF THE FILTERS OF THE TAPPET MECHANISM ON P.III.

Replying to C2/C10.12.36., we do not like the attitude taken up by Mr. Brooker on this subject. In spite of what has happened on customers' cars, he is spending his time trying to prove that his oil is all right; we think he would be better employed trying to improve the sludging quality of his lubricant.

On our side, in spite of the fact that it behaves satisfactorily with other oils, we have accepted that the engine is not all right, and the next 15,000 miles' test will be run with the filter to the tappets deleted.

We shall also try a modification to the main filter to render it less liable to sludge up; in the meantime, if you would pass our remarks on to Mr. Brooker perhaps he would stop worrying you.
