General Motors equipment business.

The slotted rubber separator offers less internal resistance when inserted in a battery than the perforated type used by the Chloride Co., in building batteries for Rolls Royce in England. The slotted rubber separator is a more expensive separator. Its use is restricted to a certain number of concerns in this country who pay Royalties and consequently higher prices for that separator because their tests have shown it to be far better than the perforated type using circular holes.

We will grant that the XCR-13 will probably not give quite as good life in service as the battery used by Rolls Royce in England. The thick plates used in that battery will last longer but we are not in a position to provide a battery of that type, and we are perfectly satisfied that you will obtain complete satisfaction through the use of the XCR battery.

You can best determine the difficulty that will be encountered in making an efficient installation due to the arrangement of cables and terminals. We are sure you will have no trouble whatever as a result of the instigated softness of the sealing compound. The plate separation is more efficient because it has lower resistance than the plate separation used in the English battery. There will be very little less life in our XCR battery than the English battery because separators in our battery are of sufficient size, strength and design to meet the life requirement of the plate used in the construction of the battery. Roughly speaking, we would say that the XCR battery will give about 75% of the life of the English battery, rather than one half as is estimated by the English Co. This is based on our experiences on Cadillac where the thin plate batteries are now being generally used instead of the old LX and LXR batteries that Cadillac used for a number of years.

We feel that you can make a satisfactory installation of the XCR-13 and in doing this we are confident that you will encounter no dissatisfaction as to battery life among your customers.

We hope that the above information will enable you to handle this matter satisfactorily, but if we can be of any further service please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Yours very truly,

THE ELECTRIC STORAGE BATTERY CO.
