Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/KW. 11th September,1935. Mr. J.B.Dixon, Church View, Sedgfield, Stockton-on-Tees. Dear Sir, Replying to your letter of August 9th, during the probationary period here we can offer you 50/- per week. On further consideration I must say that I do not feel altogether happy about your coming to Rolls-Royce Ltd. In view of your age and the fact that you have never had any training as an automobile engineer, you are starting with a big handicap. This of course you may be able to overcome, but frankly I have misgivings as to the wisdom of your coming at this juncture. I am sending a copy of this letter to Lord Rothes, because I was less pessimistic when I spoke to him than I am now after thinking things over. If you decide that, in spite of what I have said, you still wish to come here, I should like to know whether you can start on September 30th. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
