To B.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X8770 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG17.12.27. SPORTS CHASSIS. X8774 X4663 R.{Sir Henry Royce} was satisfied with the running and performance of 10-EX chassis (experimental Sports Car) which we took to W.W. on Wednesday the 14th. inst. We therefore see no reason why we should not push right ahead with the 3 complete sports chassis. The following is a general specification of these cars :- Parts which are identical to the present std. Phantom. (1) Gearbox. (2) Rear axle - except for altered gear ration (16/52). (3) Brakes. (4) Front axle - except made suitable for axle control. (5) Carburetter. (6) Slipper wheel. (7) All auxiliaries on engine. (8) Exhaust system and cutout. (9) Steering - except for modified 'D' seating position. (10) Electrical equipment. (11) Connecting rods. (12) Crankcase. The following parts are different to the present std. Phantom but we expect as soon as possible to make these std. on the std. car as well as on the sports car. (1) Crankshaft. The crankshaft should be intermediate stiffer type, but the final stiffer type should be fitted as soon as they are available. (2) Pistons. These will be the latest die-cast type. | ||
