Enquiries reveal that the dies we ordered for Wraith III. in our memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}11/AP.19.4.37 have not been produced, pending the successful trial of the die-cast Bentley main bearings.

Summarising the results our conclusions are as follows:-

(1) That a set of rejected A.C.2. main bearings of low Brinell say 70, which are also porous to be submitted to us for trial, to find if we are unnecessarily critical on these points, likewise a set of porous A.C.7. big ends.

(2) That improved cast, die cast A.C.6. main bearings be made and tried as soon as possible.

(3) That die-cast bearings are suitable from a running point of view but excessive scrap prevents standardisation.

(4) That the trouble now experienced was either not divulged in the early history of the bearings or has grown and is either due to faulty material or differences in casting.

(5) That the ultimate aim should be for one type of material for both big end and main bearings, as far as we know A.C.6. alloy.
