# 3 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/MH.{M. Huckerby} 3rd. October, 1939. The Chief Superintendent of Design, Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, LONDON, S.E.18. .Your Ref: D.346/12. Sir, We thank you for your letter of the 27th. September. Owing to the fact that we are unable to retain the Bofors Gun which was allotted to our Defence Unit and upon which we had proposed to fit our attachment for sight correction, we did not proceed to make these parts. We did, however, complete design and detail drawings. We send you herewith the design schemes. We are very conscious that this is a somewhat makeshift arrangement and it was only produced with the object of utilising some of the 1500 guns which are in existence with normal type of sights. We were prepared to develop a remote electrical control for laying the gun and actually did some work on this, but we understand that this mode of control, as a matter of fact, has been undertaken by another manufacturer, and therefore, we were only duplicating what has already been done. Probably this mode of control will be standardised when the Kerrison Predictor is brought into production. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
