c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MH.{M. Huckerby} 22nd. November, 1939. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Howlett, Esq., Wellworthy Piston Rings, Lymington, HANTS. Dear Howlett, Many thanks for your letter of 13th. November. I am sending you drawings of our Bentley main bearings and should like to know what is a commercial figure at which you could sell them to us per set. It may be that our own production costs are too high and that when fabricated by the specialist the aluminium tin alloy is not very much more expensive than the 3-layer bearing. Once again I say I do not know a better big-end bearing than AC.9. I have passed on your message to Mr. Hives with regard to a day's shooting. He is, of course, over-working disgracefully and a break would do him good. I have suggested to him that we come down to Supermarine's one Friday afternoon and spend a day in the open air on Saturday. I will try and get him to say yes or no during the next day or two. Yours sincerely | ||
