2292 BILL 446 Experimental Department Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.20/AP. July 16th, 1937 The Projectile & Engineering Co.Ltd., New Road, LONDON S.W.8. Dear Sirs, This is to confirm that we should like you to produce 6 sample torque arms FB.2924. We shall be despatching the 6 steel inserts FB.2925 next week, and would like to have delivery of the complete torque arms by August 14th. Our Order Office will be sending you an Official Order for the torque arms. We are also sending you a complete set of frame detail drawings from which we should like an estimate for tool costs as well as complete frame cost for quantities of 1000 frames. You will note that these drawings do not combine the modification you suggested on Monday 12th. These points will be considered later. We have mentioned the fact that the rear end of the cross is rivetted to the side member just where it is arched, to other frame manufacturers and have received no adverse criticism. We also notice that certain American frames even increase the width of the flange up to 3" just where it arches the well. If you are of the opinion that your suggestions shewn in red on our prints are valuable in order to obtain an efficient frame, we suggest that you should let us know what saving in cost they would mean. We are proposing that the frame should be arc welded as well as being rivetted. We should be much obliged if you could let us have these cost figures before the beginning of August. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
