Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [Handwritten crossed out text] X719 BY4-P3.5.23. FERODO LIMITED. Mr Herbert Frood has written me today stating that he is despatching, addressed for my attention, a 40/50 type clutch cone fabric which he has produced in a different method, and which he feels sure from tests he has made, is distinctly better than our standard material. We do not, of course, accept his value on his own attempt, but at the same time we certainly feel that we should give this matter every attention, as any improvement in the clutch material which would obviate squeaking, by whatever method it was done, would certainly be a distinct advantage. I will arrange to pass over to your department the improved clutch cone as soon as it arrives. I trust you will make special effort to get it put on a car at an early date so that it can be run for a prolonged period and its real value in relation to our present type material definitely obtained. I am handing you herewith copy of Mr Frood's letter on the subject, which, of course, is optimistic and may contain a more exaggerated view of the virtues of the material. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [Handwritten signature 'By'] | ||
