x6135 To Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.8/KT.23.3.33. 20/25 CHASSIS - SMITHS CLOCKS. With reference to Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}7/T21.3.33. we have examined these two clocks and we are of the opinion that the trouble is not due to over-winding but due to a broken balance wheel spindle, as this trouble has previously happened with these clocks. We have today handed these clocks to Messrs Smiths representative, Mr.Manwaring, who is arranging to have these repaired and a special report issued. Mr. Manwaring stated that they had experienced considerable trouble due to this cause, and a much more robust balance wheel spindle construction is now in hand and would be fitted to all future clocks despatched to us.
