The A.C. Sphinx Sparking Plug Co.Ltd., Dunstable, Beds. Dear Sirs, We thank you for the 3 oil filters and have accordingly instructed an official order to be passed for these. It is more convenient with regard to the position of unions for our pipes, to house your filter upside down, that is with the unions at the top? Is this any detriment to the efficiency of the filter? Regarding the pressure of operation we are really interested in the minimum pressure at which the filter will work successfully. We do not like taking tappets from our main feed to the bearings which is high pressure up to 40 lbs.sq.in. our alternative being to take the feed from the intermediate pressure stage which feeds the valve gear and ranges under various conditions, from 0 - 12 lbs.sq.in with an average of 4 lbs.sq.in. Is this pressure too low to give successful working, or could we by opening up the small orifice on the inlet union obtain satisfactory operation? If in your opinion the above is not satisfactory, our other suggestion is that we feed from the main pressure (30 lbs. s .in. and outlet into the rocker pressure (4 lbs.s .in.) giving a resultant pressure drop across the filter of 26 lbs.sq.in. We should appreciate a reply as soon as convenient as we wish to commence some special tests. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD | ||
