GRV see me HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To Sft.{Mr Swift} from E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} X719 E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}1/HP.21.12.33. c. Wks Mgr. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Ba. IDY. Re Bifurcated Rivetting for Brake Straps and Clutch Plates With reference to Sft.{Mr Swift}&BH.15.12.33, dealing with the purchase of a machine for Bifurcated Rivetting of the above parts, we agree in principle to the adoption of this method and have examined the alterations made to the parts involved. It is important, if a successful job is to be made, that the faces of the parts rivetted together are nearly parallel, i.e. the machine will not clinch over a rivet head successfully on to a face that is not reasonably square with the 'anvil' of the machine. An examination of the various modifications necessary reveals the following: 20/25 HP. Brake Straps. (1) Front Brake Straps - G.56171/2 - These are O.K. bosses having been added at the rivet holes. (2) Front Brake Auxiliary Straps - G.56079. These are O.K. the only alteration being the substitution of counter boring for counter sinking. (3) Rear Foot Brake Straps - G.54140. Although the under side of the strap is slightly tapered it appears, judging from the sample submitted, that it is possible to make a good job of the rivetting in this case without the addition of bosses. The strap requires slight modification under the two rivets at the toggle end; on the sample strap the rivetting is not very good at this point because the flange starts to taper off towards its end level with the rivet holes; the flange thickness should be maintained further towards the end. (4) Rear Hand Brake Straps. - G.56170. It is not possible to adopt bifurcated rivetting here because of the small width of the strap. | ||
