To D/L. X1002 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.20/KW.28.5.36. Report on Collision between 33-EX Car and Cyclist, at Cricklewood, 25th May, 1936. While I was driving 33-EX car (RC.{R. Childs}3168) at Cricklewood on the above date, a collision between the car and a cycle occurred. The following are the answers to the official list of questions attached :- (1) Rolls-Royce - 40/50 HP. (2) 33-EX - RC.{R. Childs}3168. (3) May 25th, 1936, 8.45 p.m. (4) May 27th, 1936 - C.S. Steadman, Experimental Tester, Check No. X.2322. (5) On the corner of Oaklands Rd. and Cricklewood Broadway. (6) Having turned left in error at the intersection of Cricklewood Broadway and Willesden Lane, I had to turn the car, and for this purpose was reversing it into Oaklands Road. After looking through the rear window and receiving the report from my passenger that all was clear at the rear, I proceeded to reverse at a crawl, my attention being engaged for a few moments in observing traffic passing the Oaklands Rd., on Cricklewood Broadway. I had reversed approximately one to two yards when hearing a shout, I stopped, got out, and found that a cyclist had come up quickly, stopped behind the car and not observing that the car was moving, had remained there until the car had touched his bicycle, whereupon he had dropped it and the rear wheel of the car had passed over the rear wheel of the bicycle (see attached sketch). The cyclist was not visible to me until I had opened the offside door. (7) Not entirely; as can be seen from the sketch, the car was partly broadside, on the left side of the road. (8) (9) | ||
