Accident to 1-B-IV.

I was proceeding along the London Road to Shardlow in 1-B-IV.

The accident happened approx. 120 yds. past the turning off to Aston (by the White House). The road here takes a gradual left-hand bend before a short straight. Just before taking the bend I passed a motor cycle going in the same direction as myself. Rounding the bend at approx. 40-45 m.p.h. I saw a stationary car in front on the near side of the road. Coming in the other direction some distance away was a motor cycle and sidecar.

I applied the brakes to pull in behind the stationary car, at the same time giving the signal that I was slowing down. When approx. 19 yds. from the stationary car, I felt something hit the rear of the car I was driving. I brought the car to rest approx. 9 yds. from the car in front. The motor cyclist whom I had passed previously had run into the offside rear wing of the car, swerved to the offside of the road and fallen off his motor cycle. He appeared a little dazed but apparently not hurt.

The only damage one could see to his machine was a broken foot rest.

Damage to 1-B-IV - offside rear wing dented.

The accident was witnessed by C. Gibbs and W. English (of the Test Dept.), also by the owner of the stationary car.

Braking marks on the road and which went right past the stationary car were admitted by all as not having been made by any of the vehicles concerned. The only other mark on the road was where the motor cycle had swerved over to the off side after having hit 1-B-IV. The width of the road was approx. 21 ft.

The name of the motor cyclist is :-

Domelow,
Coal Lane,
Borrowash.

Registration No. N U 5046
