Bowering Please see to this Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Petrol Filler on Side Of Body - Bentley and Phantom III. We have examined the petrol filler on the side of the body on the Bentleys, B56BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} and 6B IV. The finger spring behind the leather washer in the cap appears to be too strong making it rather difficult to close the filler easily. We would like this feature to be corrected before the car is shown to anybody from Sales. At the moment the finger spring, we understand, is FB 1972 made of steel, SWG.22, giving a load of 30 lbs. We have also instructed at the same time an alternative spring FB 1971 in SWG.23, giving a load of 19 lbs. Even this may be too heavy, and we suggest that an experiment be made by grinding an existing spring until the lightest reasonable load for closing the cap is obtained, when the Production D.O. can be informed of the requisite gauge to be used. We suggest that this treatment be adopted for the filler which it is proposed to show to Sales. [Signature] Handwritten notes: 24 Gauge Johnson swg 23 + 24 Springs ordered 29-2-36 | ||
