MEETING AT LE CANADELHenry Royce's French residence - (RG.{Mr Rowledge} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} & R.{Sir Henry Royce})
CAM & VALVE TIMING. X.9090.
It was considered and agreed that it would be worth while to make cams which match Hispano at say 3/8” opening, assuming the foot and also lap does very little.
INDUCTION & CARBURETTER. X.9080 X.9070.
The suggestion to have 2 carburetters and throttles connected to a common air inlet was considered but not recommended for reasons given by HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Induction pipes probably quite good for the present. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is going to retest RR. single throat carburetter.
EXHAUST. X.9230
HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} finds this as originally designed wasting power. An alternative is larger like G.11. or double 3s. to front small silencing box, or big pipe. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} to find what can best be made.
DETONATIONS.
Mr. Rowledge thinks we may get benefit from an aluminum head. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} should try for plugs between push rods, automatic advance, double battery ignition, and standby magneto with 2 sets of plugs, one between push rods, possibly induction pipe cast in head, on other side.
Plugs in head or cyl. block, horizontally at each side.
SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCH.
