Your memo. EFC1/T8.12.21. Owing to the report that it is difficult to get the gears right with the present simplest arrangement of drive, we have decided that a separate pinion shaft will be introduced and the dynamo will have its own bearing and be driven by a fabric or similar coupling. This will stop all possibility of crackcase fumes and oil getting into the dynamo.
Mr. Jenner is at present drawing this modification which can be tested at the same time as the changes which are being made to fit a magneto when demanded.

Regarding the make of dynamo it is intended that we should use our own which ought to be nearing completion, and failing this the C.A.V. seems quite satisfactory. Under the circumstances I should not put any of the other makers to further trouble as they naturally would be very distressed if, after they had spent money producing a machine to exactly suit our requirements, we were using one of our own make. I have endeavoured all through to avoid this situation but yourself or our buyers have not realised the situation we may unintentionally fall into.

The same applies to the starter motor. The C.A.V. seems O.K. and the least expensive, but our own should be ready.

Mr. Stent is unfortunately still away ill (now <s>returned</s>) or he would have drawn the Bendix pinion to the latest ideas we have.
I expect him back tomorrow and the work done by Saturday. contd:-
